It's hard to get rid of your favorite punching bag. I've always been fascinated by the political relationship between Jesus and Judas. No shit - I always knew there was something going on they weren't telling us.
What went unsaid (at least in religious ed classes I remember) is that Christianity happened ONLY because Jesus died and rose again -- and without Judas, there's no redemption for all of us. I always thought he got a raw deal. And without him AND Jesus, we'd likely all still be labelled Jew or Gentile. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Check out the description of "The Passover Plot," which came out in a 40th anniversary edition just last year, on Amazon. The concept of Jesus as a political animal is nothing new, but it's fascinating to think about.
